A couple of weeks ago, I had an idea for a very short science fiction story and I wrote it in my notebook. It sat there for a few weeks until yesterday morning, when I woke up knowing how it ends. Don't you love that? It's not even a thousand words.
Yesterday, I read it aloud to my husband. He was heaving heavy sighs when I started reading it, but he got interested quickly. He found one part rather shocking. And last night while I was trying to go to sleep, he kept talking about it. I take these all as hopeful signs. It involves an alien species and humans kept as lab rats.

really dark you say? Humans as 'lab rats' sounds like it could be pretty gruesome so I think I'll have to take your word it might be a bit disturbing - not my cup of tea.
ReplyDeleteI read this one short story which had someone being rather eaten alive - oh it was awful, I didn't read anymore of the stories.
Is the word verification new?
I'm afriad I should bow out of this one. Some darkness I can handle, but I find that when people stick "very" in front of "dark," it's usually too much for me. Sorry. {apologetic smile}

It's more psychologically dark than anything. It is not horror and there is nothing gruesome going on. But the humans in the story are under observation constantly and it's all about the lengths someone will go to to get a little privacy. No blood, no gore but yes, I'd have to qualify the "dark" with "very".
